Calling AT&T to relocalize your phone works

I bought my phone in Orange County, CA but i go to school in Santa Barbara. we have great 3G coverage here. almost full bars everywhere i go. but i live on the street closest to our town's beach and 3G can be erratic there. I heard here that calling AT&T to "re-localize" my phone would improve my signal so i tried it. this was a couple of weeks ago and so far results are great. i have friends with iPhones and have also noticed the poor 3G coverage on my street. now that ive relocalized my phone i have better signal stength than they have when in the same location. sometimes i even get full bars of 3G when their phones revert back to edge. So if you use your phone primarily in a different area than you bought it in, this could help.
