Hello all,

I'm British and I am planning on coming to Seattle to train for my Private Pilot's License this coming September. I will be doing this with Northway Aviation based at Snohomish Airport (Paine Field) (anyone know the company?!).

The reason I'm coming to do it in the US is because I love the US, and it is soooo much cheaper than training here in the UK.

However, I have one problem. Accommodation. I'll be there for 5 weeks, and a hotel will be REALLY expensive, and a tad lonely of an evening! I had a brain wave - could I go in on a house share/lodger type arrangement for 5 weeks, budget around $800.

Is this realistic, anyone got any tips for me? Does anyone have any local knowledge of people who would take me under their wing for 5 weeks?

Ideally, I'd like to have an opportunity to socialise with the people I am staying with and have an insight into living in the USA. I'm 25, so hoping for people of a similar age group.

Cheers!

Why not check out craigslist? I don't think you'll have much of a problem finding a place to rent in Seattle for 5 weeks at $800.

What a good website! I didn't know about that. It's probably a little early to post on there yet, but I will definitely use it. Thanks.

I'm still open to other suggestions/ideas everyone!

craigslist is your best bet. Also it may depend on when you are arriving. In Seattle and Everett you have some Universities, so if you are going to be here during summer you may sublet a room in a house for the summer for cheap as a lot of students go home during summer. If I recall correctly the University of Washington even rented out rooms during the summer, but it may have been only to students. Been 10 years since I graduated. Expect rooms in a house to rent for between 300-600 depending on size, utilities and the like. More if you are in Seattle, less the closer you get to Everett.

Other options are an extended stay hotel.

Try putting an ad yourself on Craigslist and see what you get. But I would look at the extended hotels as a worst case scenario just in case things go wrong when you get here.
