During a call, an automated warning about nearing the message recording limit plays loud and loops. Both parties on the call can hear the alert, and the only solution seemed to be to hang up/disconnect. Both occurrences happened while on calls with my elderly, tech unfriendly mother; therefore, I assumed the cause was an accidental button press or similar on the other end. However, shortly after the call, I received a new voicemail notification. The voicemail message was associated to my mother’s home phone number and, after listening, I realized the message was a recording of the the call. Today, weeks later, there was a second instance. Because of the previous knowledge, I looked at my phone before hanging up, no indication of a button or otherwise feature being active. The voicemail message was delayed several minutes, though sure enough did appear.

I found one comparable complaint:

• A possible software bug?
** Considering the linked inquiry was posted nearly three years ago, the behavior is either not an iOS glitch or not one Apple feels a need to address.
• A wireless provider/carrier glitch?
• Bad timing? That is, me answering the call on the same ring the automated answering system is programmed to respond — a behavior that goes back to traditional answering machines.
** Bad timing does seem to be the most probable cause. Although, I typically answer calls within a few rings and only had this unintentionally recording situation happen within the past 2-3 months.
