How accurate is the watch at calory burn calculations?

I didn't do a lot of exercise today. I saw two movies (Avengers twice), sat at my computer and did very little walking (4k steps, 2.2 miles). Yet, it reports I burned just under 4k calories for the day.

That seems a bit high for just sitting on my ass watching movies.

Calorie counting (in or out) is always going to be a 'best estimate' because of all the individual variables involved.

However if your :apple:Watch said you burned 4K (4,000) active (net) kcal in a day then you would have had to run (or the equivalent of) nearly 2 full marathons.

A good formula for calculating net calories burned per mile running is 0.63 x weight (in lbs). Brisk walking is a little less than half, so 0.30 x weight (lbs).

As far as I can tell the active calorie burn seems to be fairly accurate. The resting calorie rate is way off. So I'd only take notice of the active calories.
