Hi,

I have never owned a digital camcorder before. I want to purchase one that will be suitable for digital editing using iMovie (I have just ordered the new iLife '08). It will be primarily used for shooting holiday footage, etc. I am fairly savvy with Macs, just not with digital editing.

I have a budget of around £250 - £300. I have found it very difficult to get good advice on the advantages and disadvantages of hard disc camcorders versus mini-DV camcorders. It strikes me that mini-DV camcorders record at a higher quality and are easier to edit than the HDD ones. Is this true?

I think I want a widescreen camcorder and the only decent mini-DV I have found is the Sony Handycam DCR-HC47E. What do you think of this one?

I would appreciate any advice you guys can offer.

Many thanks,

MadDoc
