I know this really isn't the place for it, but since I am using a Mac, and this relates to it, I think you guys can help me.

I am using FCP for editing news reports that I make on a regular basis. I am currently thinking about buying a camcorder. The problem is, do FCP captures videos made on DVD camcorders just like they do on DV camcorders?

I believe so as long as they have FW.

I would recommend considering a MiniDV camera since you can archive your raw footage on cheap tapes. Plus you get a DV stream instead of a compressed stream.

If you want to edit your video, then stay away from miniDVD camcorders. MiniDVDs are intended to be popped out of their cameras and into a tray-loading DVD player. Consider only name-brand miniDV camcorders with FireWire. Research the manufacturer's website to ensure that each model under consideration is MacOS X/iMovie/Final Cut Express/Final Cut Pro-compatible.
