Forgive me if this would be more appropriate somewhere else - I have scoured most of the 14 reaction threads and haven’t found any meaningful discussion on this…

The camera bump on the 14 pro is one of the biggest fails I have ever seen from Apple and I can’t believe no one is discussing it!
The phone see-saws on every surface when it is set down

Vehicle wireless charging pads are rendered entirely useless! What is the point of wireless CarPlay now - it only made sense with the massive battery drain so that you didn’t have cables cluttering your console WITH wireless charging - but the giant gap caused by the camera bump doesn’t allow contact anymore! Is this Apple quietly forcing MagSafe charging as the only wireless charging option?

I’ve been going back and forth on whether to get this iteration of the iPhone or wait until next year to see what they give us, and the monster sized camera is one of the biggest reasons. I understand that Apple probably puts the entire camera outside so that they have more room inside for other things. I haven’t seen it in person yet but the pictures I have seen make it look ridiculously large and out of place. It just looks silly and I don’t know if I could get used to it. I never thought about it’s effect on wireless charging on standard chargers. If I did get it, I wasn’t going to go the magsafe route because I have quite a few non MagSafe chargers that work just fine. I have a normal, non charging holder in my car because I generally don’t do much driving, and I am not sure how it would handle that camera bulge.

For the record, I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 20. This too has a camera appendage that is not flush. It is a weird rectangle and not a square. But it has a lot less depth to it. It doesn’t sit flat, but it only wobbles a bit. I really wanted this to be the year that I moved on to iPhone. All of the devices in my life except my phone are Apple. I will be going to Best Buy this weekend to see it in person. I may bring one of my most used chargers with me to see if it would fit.

Yeah, I think it would be better if they put the 3 lenses straight across the back to eliminate so many issues.

Also, my unpopular opinion... 99% of us are not professional photographers and don't need these huge cameras! I think they could go with lesser camera modules that do mot protrude so much and would be more than great for the internet posted pictures that everyone uses it for.

Speak for yourself. Apple would never. They set themselves apart from the pack with the best photography and video.

Does anyone have the measurements of the iPhone 14 pro max camera bulge and how it compares in size to the iPhone 13 pro max?

I'd recommend not taking one persons word for things.

My 14pro, still waiting for the case to be delivered, charges just fine on my Anker Qi stand despite the camera bump causing a slight gap. Same on a different Qi pad. In my truck I use a magsafe clone Qi phone holder since the built in Qi pad is in the cubby that's usually full of other crap.

While I can't say for sure why the other posted reported an issue, take it for what it is - one report - and the issue may not have been from the camera bump...

There is almost no difference. I stuck my 14pm in the 13pm case and it fit but the bump was only very slightly bigger. I probably could have taken an razor to the case and shaved it down as it was small enough of a difference to probably be an easy fix but it would make the case look like **** and the raised lip which protects the sense would be gone so I didn't do it.

Looks so dumb. They really need to figure out a new design strategy. The iPhone is stale in need of some life breathed into it.
Personally, I would argue that goes for just about any smartphone these days.
One could argue there are folding phones now, but I consider that a gimmick. I don’t feel like folding phones really solve a problem.

It solves a lot of problems. After a week with a Flip I ditched the iPhone as the daily driver. A gimmick is the "dynamic island".

I'm genuinely curious - what problems does it solve?
A phone that fits in my pockets without problems and isnt noticeable. A simple way to protect the screen from damage in pockets. Easily controlling media and other things without firing up a display and interact with the whole thing. Having a red notification dot on the closed phone so I can know at a glance if I need to check something. It's just a much better experience all around. It makes the phone more like a phone and keeps me from having to engage with it all day long. Being able to slam it shut when angry is a plus lol.

The rumor I found most interesting for the 14 pro last year was a totally flush back like the 4 series. But I guess it would be like carrying one of those Motorola bricks from the late 80s/early 90s. Sigh…
