iPhone 17 Camera control button - isn’t it meant to be slide to zoom?

I got an iPhone 17 on Saturday and I don’t think my camera control button works? I can press it and the camera app opens and I press again and it takes a photo, but if I run my finger along it nothing happens - I thought that was meant to zoom in and out? Do I have a faulty phone? Annoying if so as it’s perfect other than this

You need to enable the settings for it under Controls.
