"Camera is being used by another application" am I being watched??

I was facetiming with a friend and they said that they couldn't see me and there was a message that said "camera is being used by another application." I closed all open applications on my mac and my friend said the message was still there and they still couldn't see me. This has happened twice now both times I closed all my open applications and the message persisted until I hung up and called back. I'm the paranoid type so the first thing my mind went to is that my computer is potentially compromised. Am I just being paranoid or is my concern valid? Thanks in advance to anyone that responds.

Download Oversight.app (https://objective-see.com/products/oversight.html) and that will tell when camera or mic are used and who is using them. You will know and now what to do.
