I can't seem to find anything, but is there anything (other than a case) that will protect the camera lens? I have a BodyGuardz PURE glass screen protector, I would love if they made a small cutout for the camera..
Why don't they? Is it a matter of ruining photo quality?

I don't think really it's necessary. Never had one on my iPhone 4 and not a single scratch, scuff, etc. The lens is supposedly harder on the iPhone 5 too so I wouldn't worry much about it.

Looking more into it, I guess the glass they use (Sapphire glass?) rates a 9/10 on the Mohs hardness scale, so that is a bit more reassuring!

It's not sapphire glass, it's actually clear sapphire. Sapphire crystal can be any color under the rainbow. It is the same stuff used for Rolex and Tag Heuer watch faces. I have had my Tag for 10 years and wear it every day. I have beat, and banged it on cinder-block, concrete, just about everything and at no point has it even had the smallest scratch show up. It is as smooth and clear as the day I got it.
