My iPhone 12 Pro went about a foot under water a few times yesterday. Maybe 5 seconds each time. I later noticed Face ID stopped working. The message I get in settings says there is a problem with the true depth camera. I can see condensation on the inside. Today I found that on two of the three lenses on the back.

Has anyone else had this problem? Apple says all iPhone 12 models can be submerged in roughly 20 feet (6 meters) of water for up to 30 minutes without being damaged. I’ll be giving them a call tonight. I’ve had the phone for just under 11 months so it should be covered without me having to pay through AppleCare.

There's no guarantee of any water resistance for the iPhone. It may be rated to IP68 or whatever, but when it leaks (and some of them do) Apple won't warranty the repair. Water damage is not part of your warranty.
The IP rating means virtually nothing — only that it MIGHT not leak when submerged.
An iPhone 6 WILL leak if submerged. An iPhone 12 MIGHT NOT leak if submerged.

No phone or watch manufacturer guarantees their water ratings. There's just no way to test every single device before it leaves the factory. They seal it up as good as possible, but there are bound to be some defects.

Give Apple a shot, you might get a sympathetic employee that will do you a solid and replace the device. The only way to guarantee a water damaged phone gets replaced is Applecare+. As a member above mentioned, water damage isn't covered under the regular warranty even though they state it is IP rated.

My wife had her iPhone 5 screen replaced once for free. She flat out told the apple store employee that she dropped it and it cracked and they were all like... You didn't say that. And she's like, yeah I totally did. And they're all like... uh no you didn't... you have no idea how it happened wink wink. And when she finally got the hint she was like... oh yeah, it just totally cracked on it's own.
