I just picked up a used 27" Thunderbolt display to use as my main monitor (2nd is a 27" Benq) for my 2018 Mac Mini running Sonoma (14.2.1). The camera, mic and speakers worked great for the 1st week or 2 but iit no longer "finds" any of those devices... not in the System Settings (or system report), not in Apple apps like Facetime and not through the browser either. Facetime tells me to connect a camera. System Settings only has options for the Mini and my other monitor for audio output and "no audio input device found" for input. In System Report --> Hardware --> Camera, "no video capture devices were found" and no camera is displayed in the System Report --> Hardware --> USB tree.

It's probably worth pointing out that a USB camera plugged into the Mini works without issue. Also, I'm not running with any Screentime restrictions.

I can't remember if I updated the OS to Sonoma before or after starting to use this monitor, but I've read some other threads that seem to indicate there might be issues with the old display/camera and the latest version of MacOS, but I can't tell for sure if it's a known issue.

Anyone else run into this issue?

I use a 27" TBD w/ latest Sonoma and have no issues. Camera, mic, & speakers all work. Suggest you unplug the TB3 > TB2 adapter from your Mac mini and unplug the TBD from power. Wait a few minutes, plug in the TBD to power then attach the adapter to your Mac. If you still have the issues, try different TB ports on the Mac mini. If you still have the issues, try a different adapter. If you still have the issues, your 10+ yr old TBD may have hardware issues.

Edit: I am also assuming you have no peripherals attached to your TBD.

Well she must have been holding on for dear life because once I disconnected from power, it never came on again. I don't hear any noise coming from it, although I never did, and the camera wasn't working so the lack of light next to it doesn't tell me anything. I don't have a device to plug magsafe power cable into so I really can't tell if iit's "on" or not, but it's really looking like it's dead.

Now to find a suitable (mostly from a color accuracy standpoint) replacement for under $400....

Another TBD
I considered it but am having a hard time investing that kind of $$ in a 10+ year old device. the one I had was from a reputable dealer on eBay and supposedly expertly refurbished blah blah blah. I know I'm not going to get EXACTLY as good with another monitor in the price range I'm looking for, but something with *decent* color accuracy would be great. I don't do much print work, but when I do, i need to have something better than consumer-level accuracy. Maybe this mythical beast doesn't exist...
