Yesterday my camera stayed on constantly and ran the battery down on my iPhone. I figured out that it was because my Apple Watch had a camera shutter on the complication. This was never a problem in the past and was really convenient when I was taking group photos with the watch as remote. I had to shut it down. Now the iPhone is behaving properly.

Once my camera stayed on and drained my battery.
I sleep with the phone next to me on the bed, and might have accidentally touched the camera button on the lock screen, but that doesn't explain why the camera remained on for hours.
I'm still baffled to this day on that incident.
