Camera suggestions for H.S. TV studio

I am in the process of setting up a small TV studio at our high school to teach studio broadcasting. I was wondering what suggestions people may have for the video cameras. I would like HD but it is not required, budget is a concern so anything under $3000 would be great. The cameras will be run into a tricaster with component or s-video connections to be mixed.

is this camera going to live in a studio or is it going to go out of the studio to film other events?

If possible I would like it to be used in the studio and also be portable for other events around the school district.
