tips? Obviously security wont let you stay inside overnight. Im not even sure they let you stay in the parking lot because of loitering laws...Whats the best way to camp at a mall?

Since there are several entrances, do people just wait outside in different areas and rush and claw their way in to be at the front of the appl store when the malls open at 9am? Or does AAPL actually set up a designated area outside the mall for people to wait and hand out numbers?

Find a hiding spot and stay overnight.

Bathrooms, closets, run away from mall cops all night while calling them blart.

At my mall, the line usually starts outside of the doors until the mall doors open. Then the line is guided in by security to the Apple store.

oh ok..so its a bit more civilized than I had pictured

Tip though... Don't think the order you are standing in line outside the mall will equate to the same order outside the Apple store. As soon as the door opens its a mad rush to the store. People have in the past mistakenly thought that there was a gentlemen agreement. Then were escorted out of the mall without an iPhone after making a scene.

some malls won't let you stay at the doors it really does vary by mall. Kinda like black friday! once you get enough ppl they can't do much :D

dear god. the horror...so there is a mad dash once the doors open..may have to rethink this strategy

For the iPhone 4 my mall didn't allow people to line up outside of the doors until 6. I got there at roughly 4 and stayed in the car until the clock turned 6 when I rushed to the doors along with all the other people. Luckily, I got there 2nd, and it was smooth sailing from there. Good luck on Friday, I preor.dered this time around.

I kind of camped for the 4 - everyone showed up to the mall at about 5AM and was guided by security outside the doors. Mall security and police actually told everyone to leave at 5AM - then realized they had a "situation" on their hands and there was a bum rush to form lines at about 6 or 7. It was like reorganizing the middle east, with no guns. Several lines and no one is sure which one is the "right" one, and lots of uncertainty. #Firstworldproblems.

This time, I preordered. :D

Definitely glad I pre-ordered.

I have never lined up before but it sounds to me like a nightmare. I'd also be extremely tired and wouldn't even want to play with the phone once I got home.
