I have virtually decided to go for the bas 2012 13" Macbook Pro. Mainly so I can upgrade the memory and disk over time (also can replace the battery - no glue!)

Before I put the money down, can anyone confirm for definite:

1) The memory can be upgrade to 16Gb
2) The SATA connection is not throttled to 300Mbs, but allows 600Mbs

Thanks in advance guys/gals

1) you can upgrade to 16GB without issue.
2) The SATA connection is 600Mbs.

It's a great laptop. I already installed the Samsung 830 256GB SSD and it screams compared to my 2009 MBP.

Yup, he is correct. In fact, Ivy Bridge supports up to 32gb of ram. So in the future when they start making 16gb ram sticks, and apple allows it (big if), you'll be able to get 32gb. It'll be expensive though.

for each sata port, the link speed is 6 but for the hdd, the negotiated is 3 and for the odd its 1.5

I believe you're right. I said yes because I assumed the OP was talking about upgrading the HD possibly to a SSD in the future.
