Some of the programs I am using on my 2018 MBP are not compatible with High Sierra. Can I run Sierra OS X using VM Fusion on my 2018 MBP?

In theory you can run MacOS under a virtual VM:

However there are a lot of gotchas. I just tried to download Sierra on my iMac Pro and got this error message:

Since you have a new machine I assume you would have the same problem.

I then tried to download it in a Parallels Windows 10 VM and got the messages:

Got the same message when trying to download in Firefox running in High Sierra.

You can get the install image in other ways. But will Parallels run a version of MacOS that is not supported on that hardware? Don't know.

You are right. I did try to download Sierra but got that same error. I will try to download Sierra using my old 2011 MBP and put it on a USB stick and try using VM Fusion.

Back in the day there were steps in running macOS in a VM. I've not tried or seen them, but I think they're out there

Yes you can.

I am running Snow Leopard on My Mac using VirtualBox, even when my Mac doesn't support Snow Leopard.

That's really weird. I never ran into such problems.

Update.
It worked running Sierra using VM Fusion 10. Then it asked to update iTunes.

Should’ve NOT updated. It stopped working after the update.

I’ll try again tomorrow without updating.

Update 2:
It worked right after installing Sierra on VM Fusion 10. NO updates this time.
Turned off Sierra and try to restart - no look.

So it seems it only works after the initial install. But when you quit and have to restart, it gives errors and gets stuck in a loop of "error-restart".

So much for that.

Did you install VMware Tools before that reboot where everything stopped working? Normally, lack of VMware Tools installed would see that type of behaviour.

Here are VMware’s instructions for installing macOS 10.12 in a VM:

On a related note, there is also a test build of Fusion available for download from VMware that adds support for Mojave.
