A "friend" used her finger to point and touched my screen. Not worried about her finger but I was unsure if her nail made contact. They weren't long and they were plain (it wasn't painted it had no fake crap on it just straight up vanilla)

Assuming her nail did make contact could it do damage?

I would assume nails wouldn't be hard enough to scratch the retina display? Right?

Dude. Are you serios ?
I think you have more important stuff to worry in life than a microscopic scratch on your screen.
Just my two cents.

That didn't answer my question. And obviously I don't since I created the thread. If you can't help then no need to post,I could easily ask you the same thing?

Don't you have more important things in life to worry about then to post on a thread questioning if a person has something more important to do with their life.

No. The nail didn't scratch the display.
Does this answer your question ?
Btw, why didn't you check to see if there is a scratch ?

It's my day off ! :D

Yes it does :)

Thank you!

I'm still in class so I don't really have the time to check but I would assume her nail or any nail in general wouldn't be hard enough (that's what she said)

Can a fingernail scratch rMBP screen?

Yes it does :)

Don't worry. The display is fine :)
I touch mine all the time and it has no marks.

How many things can scratch glass? Google it. You'll get your answer.

Retina's glass is multicoated with Silicon monoxide which has a Mohs hardness of about 7. Glass has a hardness of about 5.5.

You would need something stronger than steel to scratch the retina display, or steel with A LOT of pressure. Glass or cystals could scratch the retina display.

fingernails have a hardness of 2, which means you'd need to have one traveling around 150 mph before it can have a chance of causing any damage.

OP, or you can just listen to this ^ guy. Seems to know his stuff. ;)

seriously?

well a nail _COULD_ make a scratch.. it can also poke out an eye or rip your skin to pieces so blood squirts everywhere.

Did the nail hurt your screen? well, asuming you didn't poke out an eye already, i'd say you should take a look.
