Yes. I just flipped it around and yes it can be worn on the underside of the wrist. Simple answer.

FYI - if you were wondering if it reads your heart rate while flipped the answer is seemingly also yes - uncertain of the accuracy but it does register.
 
According to their site and documentation, no. If you're wearing it simply as a timepiece and notifications device, sure... but evidently not for any of the physical fitness and sensor data.

HR should be fine. It is the accelerometer that is the BIG problem. All the algorithms are designed for measuring on the top of the wrist.
