I have a pioneer VSK-823-K receiver that is hooked up to my TV via an HDMI cable. I also have it connected to my wifi network. I can send audio to it without any problems using AirPlay, but I cannot stream video or mirror anything from my iPhone or iPad. From the gist I am getting online, you can only mirror video using an AppleTV which I do not have. Is there any way to get my receiver to wirelessly mirror anything on my iPad/iPhone?

No current AVR receiver has the Intel Quck sync chipsset ergo none support video Airplay.

The Apple TV 2 and 3 don't have QuickSync and can receive AirPlay Mirror streams. What redhawk87 is wanting to do is send videos and his screen from his iPhone onto his TV through his Pioneer receiver just as one would do through an Apple TV 2/3.

QuickSync is needed on a Mac used as a source for display mirroring.

OP needs an AppleTV or a Mac running AirServer. Receivers at this time only support audio streaming.

Thank you all for your responses! I guess my only option right now is buying an AppleTV if I want mirroring... If only apple came out with a receiver/AppleTV combo.
