We are looking at getting a new TV and one of the things that came up is how far does AirPlay 2 support extend on the smart TV’s that support it. Can you output audio from such a TV to Homepod or is that impossible? I have been looking for an answer but couldn’t find anything conclusive.

This is relevant to my interests as well. Just picked up a Samsung 65” with these exact capabilities.

I have a Vizio M Series Quantum that received Airplay 2 update in August. I can say that I haven't found a way to output directly to the homepod without using an AppleTV. I am able to send Video and Audio directly to the TV and I was able to default the TV audio to play out of either external source or built-in speakers or auto. I have the Bose Soundbar 700 set. Hope this helps
