I have a friend who has internet coming thru cable into the living to an airport express. We are wondering if he can use an airport extreme as an wds extender in the basement home office, where there is not a cable hookup. The office has several PCs and several printers. Some of the PCs could be wired(ethernet) or wireless to the extreme.

Would this situation work? could airtunes be used in the living, and the extreme be used as a print server in the basement? Also would airdisks be supported on the extreme since it is being used as a WDS?

Any input is appreciated.

The scenario you have said is possible and quite operable. Just set up the Express first as the Main Station, then setup the Extreme on WDS which will the reconfigure the Express.

I assume that the Airport Extreme will then be limited to using just one channel (band 5ghz or 2.4ghz)? Is this correct?
