I currently have verizon fios for internet access and also have fios tv. If i were to buy an airport extreme base station. Would a airport extreme base station replace the verizon fios router with no problems at all? Also in the past when I wanted to change my ip address i would leave my router disconnected for about 24 hours or less so that I could get a new ip address would this work the same with the airport extreme base station?

You can't replace the Fios router (unless you have ethernet vs coax coming out of your ONT box plus you need a separate device to keep your STB working this way) ... assuming your Fios router is connected via coax, setup your Apple router in bridge mode.

Just Google Fios and Airport Extreme, and you'll find lots of instructions.
