Can an Old AP Express (g) extend a new AP Extreme(g,n)?

I can't seem to get my old 802.11 g Express to extend my 5th gen AP extreme's wifi.

Is it even possible?

I set them both up using the same settings for a WDS network, but the AP express will not restart after, forcing me to reset it each time I try.

Maybe I need to get a new AP express that supports n? I figured the old one would just extend the g band, guess not?.

plug an ethernet cable from the express to your computer, this will save you from having to reset the unit each time, and will let you see the error messages, so you will know how to start fixing your problems.
