Can an old IR keybard be used with a macbook?

I have this keyboard (found in a pile of goodies going to the trash at my school). It has a USB IR receiver, and it works fine with that, but I wondered if there is a program or anything that would let me use it with my MacBook's built-in IR sensor.
 
Anyone?
I have the huge receiver taped on the underside of the top of my shelf, which works alright, but it has a big red light on it that is annoying.

It is IR, so couldn't it be used with the macbook's built-in IR port?
