Can any band be attached to any model of watch?

I'm a little confused by the three tiers of watches and accompanying bands.
Could I attach a steel link band to a Space Grey sport edition or am I limited to the plastic bands?

All bands attach to all models.

As long as they are the same size.

All 38 mm bands will fit the 38 mm casing, and all 42 mm bands will fit the 42 mm casing. How it will look is subjunctive to the end user.
