Hey!

I have a flight later this week out of JFK that leaves at 6:50PM. Is it worth fighting rush hour traffic by taking a cab? Or should I just take the subway? I live in Union Square (14th & 4th). How much time should I leave?

Thanks, I'm new to the area so I don't know too much about traveling out of NYC yet ;)

take the cab and give yourself plenty of time in case of delays. the cabs are a locked price to the airports so no need to worry about running up the meter. I used to live in Union Sq myself. its been a while but i think the fare is somewhere between $30-$40 not including tip and toll ($7 for tunnel)
It will take you about an hour to get to the airport during rush hour.

You could take the subway but you'll just end up taking your flight all sweaty and tired.

Judging by your address you live in or near the Zeckendorf towers...

I'd go for the subway if I were you. I guess you know what to do there (if you don't, take the 5 to Fulton St, transfer to the an A going to Far Rockaway, then get off Howard Beach - JFK Airport station, from there, the AirTrain is a quick ride to JFK), but I've found the subway + AirTrain to be much faster than a cab from past experiences... not to mention it'll only cost you $7 ($2 subway + $5 AirTrain).

I would take a cab or call a limo-type service. I believe I paid $40 for a towncar to pick me up across the MOMA to JFK which included the tip. If you go that route, you can tell them the time of your flight and they'll know what time they'll need to pick you up by.

I wouldn't want to go on the subway with my luggage.

Okay so that's two for subway, two for cab, two for time travel.
Hahaha... maybe I should have made this a poll

I'm only going to Florida for 4 days so I won't have very much luggage.

Ugh, I still don't know.
