Can anyone confirm that an unregistered device can update to iOS 8b1 through iTunes?

I have an iPad 2 and iPhone 5 I would like to try out. I will register with ***** if I have to, but thought I'd ask here first.

If you were around for the 7.1 Betas you would know that that doesn't work anymore.
 
To answer this: I registered my iPhone on my developer account but forgot to add my iPad, it failed activation and wouldn't let me use the device until I added my device to my account.
 
Besides activating after installation, 8b1 also needs to activate after every reset so I really doubt that an unregistered device is going to be able to slip through this time.

Yup. This. It will work up until it gets rebooted.
