I'd love to make a handful of ringtones for my new iPhone. I've already made a few using a combination of Garageband & a waveform editor that I've actually forgotten the name of, and I've tried a iPhone app from the app store, but neither have been particularly satisfactory.

The Garageband method tends to be more complicated than it needs to be and the iPhone app outputs at 64kbps, which sounds terrible.

Any recommendations?

The thread is a little misleading...so I'll switch it up.

Which of those are actually for Mac OS X?

I'm not sure you'll find anything with less steps than Garage Band.

1) Drag the file in.
2) Adjust the song-length bar.
3) Selct menu item: "Send to iTunes"

Can this process really be shortened to less than 3 steps?

Do you create a new project every time? I could see how that would add a bit more time. I have a "Ringtone" GB project that I use. I just open it up, use it, then don't save it.

OP, I know you said that you've used Garageband and find it to be less than perfect for your needs, but I think the Garageband method is pretty straightforward. I like that you can choose any segment of any song in your library. I've yet to find anything easier that has decent sound quality.
