Can anyone recommend a reliable/inexpensive web host

What the topic says...

I don't need a huge amount of space or bandwidth, just ssh, ftp, and some kind of web control panel is always nice. I haven't used a web host in a few years, so I'm not really sure what the state of the business is.

I'd especially like recommendations from people who have actually used the host they are recommending.

Another vote for ASO, they are fantastic, and following previous recommendations to other members there are a whole bunch of us around here that are using them.
