Can anyone recommend a retouch program other than PScs?

I want to retouch ancestral photo's and documents, plus some of my recent photo's . Can you suggest a program other than PScs3? It is way to expensive and to far advanced for me and for what I do.

Photoshop express is much much cheaper than full Photoshop. For free, gimp and pixelmator are popular. Personally, I find PS much more user friendly than gimp, I have never used pixelmator.
