Some would say, this was their idea all the time, push forward and substitute Touch ID by a superior technology, face Id.

Some would say that they weren’t able to create a Touch ID sensor that worked behind the oled screen, so they had to pull another alternative.

Some would say that they wanted to implement both technologies but they weren’t able to do it on proper time.

Either way, Touch ID is dead and even If, at the present, face Id is not on par (if...) It will evolve to be far superior.

Move on or buy an IPhone 8.
Next year, there probably won’t be new Iphones with Touch ID.

Obviously, it's because they couldn't make touch ID blend in the screen everyone knows that. Apple can try to sell their face ID feature as much as they want but in the end of the day everyone knows the truth.

I think it was more of an issue that they couldn't produce enough finger print readers embedded in the screen at the scale that Apple would need to do it. Other phones have the finger print reader embedded in the screen but the parts supplier wouldn't have been able to produce 100 million of them.

But I don't believe there any other smart phone manufacturers that have the fingerprint reader under an OLED display. That was one of the issues primarily, aside from supply constraint.
