Can Apple TV produce 5.1 surround sound.

Hope this the right forum.

I hv an Apple TV (3rd generation) which is 2015 model.

Can anyone advise can I receive dolby surround 5.1 with the Apple TV. I understand it also depend on the source, but what if the recording is in Dolby 5.1, will my Apple TV does it job? Does my question make sense?

I have a 3rd Gen Apple TV and definitely experienced 7.1 surround sound last night streaming a movie from Netflix! Via a Dennon Amp.

Yes it can, almost all HD content comes in either 5.1 or 7.1.
