Hello! I am thinking about doing the iPhone Upgrade Program (iUP) with the iPhone 17 Pro when that comes out, and up till now, I have skipped over that the iUP comes with AppleCare and loss protection...

Now I have never had AppleCare+ on my iPhone before, but basically every other product of mine has had it.

I also have an iPhone 14 Pro that has its back glass cracked from a drop that I think it would have survived caseless. It just fell out of my pocket while I was using the bathroom, and I am blaming the case, like theres no way an iPhone's back glass could shatter from a 2 foot drop...

What do you think, can AppleCare+ be a replacement to a phone case? Like if I had AppleCare+ on my 14 Pro, I could have easily have gotten my phone fixed for $29 (cheaper than Apple's silicone case ($49))

Sounds like a freak accident. I use cases and screen protectors and have dropped various iPhones over 100x over the years and I have never had a cracked screen or back. Some of these drops are 3-4ft onto concrete also.

Apple care can be good but I would still use a case bro

I don't use cases either. There was one time, but I don't really count that.

Anyway, I don't see AC+ as a 'replacement' for a case, unless you're in the habit of breaking/changing cases a lot. The minimum amount you'd pay for any service (outside of the warranty) is around $29 I think. If you drop your phone a lot, $29 can add up.

I prefer to just do what I do for myself in handling my phones without a case. If you've spent any time on these forums, you'll know my stance on using an iPhone without a case.

I never use a case.

I always get AC+.

I've only had to use AC+ on my phones once (phone slipped out of the pocket of a pair of shorts I didn't normally wear, while on the highest part of my roof ... it slid away and shot off the roof like a rocket, plummeting over 3 stories before hitting a boulder .. impressively, it was still usable, but kind of a mess).

For me AC+ is about peace of mind. I don't mind paying the few extra bucks to make sure if I do something dumb with my phone, it's covered.

This was my first year of having AC+ on my phone. Gave me peace of mind to use or not use a case. I have been careless for the past 7 or so months. Love my phone without a case. My 17PM will be caseless as well.

I finally went caseless in March of this year and started using skins in place of cases. I still use screen protectors and had one installed when my phone fell at work and of course the hit struck on the side where the screen protector doesn’t cover and I had a crack the shape of an L. I have AppleCare+ and only paid $29 to get it repaired before I trade it in for the 17PM next week. No matter what, I’m going to continue going caseless, using a skin protector and keep AppleCare+ for peace of mind.

AC+ doesn't replace a case for me. My nearest Apple Store is almost 3 hours away, so if I damage my phone and need service it's a 6 hour round trip drive, plus the time I spend there, plus the cost of a tank of gas to get there and back, plus the $29 repair fee.

My phones get a screen protector installed and go into a case as soon as they come out of the box before I even turn them on. I'm not gentle with my phones, so I'd rather protect them than have to waste a whole day trekking back and forth to the Apple Store every time something happens. I don't care about the aesthetics of using a case - my phone isn't an art piece or precious jewelry, it's a tool - and I actually like the look and feel of it better when it's in a good case anyway. It certainly looks better than a bare phone looking like I dragged it down five miles of gravel road behind my truck.

I have AC+ in case I need it, because a case/screen protector can't prevent everything, but it's not a substitute or replacement for a case for me.

I had a screen crack from a drop at low height, despite having a case on the iPhone. When I got my next iPhone, I got AC+ and stopped buying cases. It's a little scary at first because the phone feels different in your bare hands, but I soon realized that I could appreciate how slim and light the phone really is. Also, despite having used a clear case, I could better appreciate the color of the iPhone.

Just be careful when you take landscape photos with it. I find that to be when I'm most likely to drop it. Especially in the summer when your hands can get sweaty.

For me it is, AppleCare+ is my case, been for years now.
When you use the device without a case, you realize you don’t actually need to be overly careful, for any real damage, you’ve got AppleCare+ anyway.

The cost to replace the phone isn't much more than a case. I've quite using a case all together for years. It's the only way.

I haven’t used a case since the iPhone upgrade program came out. I definitely use AC+ as a replacement for a case now.

I tried just using AC+ but my 15 pro max screen got so scratched up it was insane. Idk how

I've had almost every iPhone since the 3G. I stopped using screen protectors somewhere around the 7 or 8 I think. I started going caseless a couple of years ago. I think I've had 2 phones replaced, and that was because of hardware problems. I do have AppleCare+, but mostly because if my phone gets hurt I want expedited replacement. I have never broken a screen or a back on any phone. My 16 Pro doesn't have a scratch on it.
