Can AT&T in store pick up be activated from home?

I pre-ordered an iPhone 3GS from AT&T for in-store pick up, but I just want to pick it up and take it home to activate it.

Does anyone know if they require in-store activation, or will they let me take it home to activate?

I'm not sure about AT&T, but FWIW, Apple Store told me that it would have to be activated in the store.

In theory, yes. There's nothing that makes them different than the ones being shipped to customers' houses. However, the AT&T store may have activation as part of the sale process meaning you will have no choice but to activate it there.

Thanks for the info! Seems strange that they would do that, considering in home activation would speed up the lines....

When I ordered the manager told me I'd activate at home.
