Can barely hear Garageband songs once sent to itunes

The songs that I record sound good and loud in Garageband, but once I send them to itunes, I can barely hear them. All the levels seem up. What am I missing?

How is your Master Volume set in Garage Band?
It should be set to 0dB - any higher will give a boost which will not be included in the mix down.
If you have it turned all the way up you will hear a 6dB boost while mixing your song, but not when listening in iTunes.

Edit: no, sorry - that's wrong. Just tried it out, and the master output also affects the mix-down.
