similar how Touch ID can work without pressing button...anyone know? Would love it if it did that. Face ID unlock but not swipe needed.

From the videos I've seen, it will unlock with FaceID. The lock icon will change to an unlocked icon when FaceID has finished its work. However, the home screen won't appear until you swipe up. Without the swipe it appears you'll just be left staring at the lock screen.

Having not played with it myself, maybe someone who was at the event can enlighten us.

It feels Apple has been grooming us for some time with this method - that unlocking doesn't necessarily mean going to your home screen, because you can interact with lock screen notifications etc. I'd assume, although this is just an absolute guess, that there'd be a setting for it just in case you want to go direct to the home screen.

One thing that is telling, there is a setting that allows you to obscure notifications on the lock screen until you've authenticated with Face ID, then they reveal themselves. This is a clear indication that Apple views the authentication step as being the event that occurs prior to any usage of the device whatsoever, whereas in the past the authentication step happened between the lock screen and the rest of your phone. Thus, the swipe to go to the home screen.

this phone if jailbreakable will have a lot of features people want. I can see no swipe to unlock and adjusting the top notch area
