I'm trying to access a website that will only work with Explorer but I'm using firefox. Is there a way to fool the site into thinking that I'm using Explorer? Perhaps with a plugin or extension for firefox?

You can change your user agent for Safari or FireFox. You might need ActiveX or Windows Media Player for your page though. That's Windows only...

How good is User Agent at emulating IE6 ? Would you use it for web design and checking a site?

I just installed User Agent Switcher and I can now load the site that I previously couldn't. However the site is now telling me that I need Active X control. Is that impossible on a mac?

NO

And they are IE-only for a reason, unfortunately, activex is a major reason.
