Everytime I make, say, a bookmark a web UI or whatever, I end up needing two: one to access the web UI from inside my home network, one from external/remotely.
I'd like to just use one (i.e. the external one), but I can't seem to access anything from inside my network using the external IP
ort number, even if I forward the port in my router settings.
An example will hopefully make it clearer:
On my MacBook (IP address 192.168.0.2) I have a torrent client called Transmission. I can access it's web UI from any computer within my house/network using (port 5111 is set in my router to forward to my MacBook (192.168.0.2):
http://192.168.0.2:5111/Transmission/
For obvious reasons, if I want to access it from outwith my home network, I have to use:
http://<external IP>:5111/Transmission/
The above is fine, and works well. What I'd like to know is why doesn't the 2nd option above work from inside my network? I'd have though if the port was forwarded, it should work?
