I'm replacing my AW5 with the Ultra 2 soon. The 5 isn't worth much to sell so I'm probably going to repurpose it. I sometimes use it as a recording device. I access those recordings through the app on my phone. Can I have both watches linked to my phone or would I have to sign out of the Ultra 2 to access recordings on the S5?

Will steps/workout etc syn between the two?

I'm planning on going from S3 to Ultra 2 but would like to keep the S3 running for when I'm doing anything i dont want to have the new one on for risk of scratching/damage (mainly DIY on the house)

Seems to do so in my limited testing of my S6 and S9, though technically it'd be that both watches sync to the phone which combines the data.

That's my understanding. Each will sync with the phone, but not with each other. Steps are still counted.

Since the OP was only asking about his two watches, that is all I addressed. Telling him he can pair 5 doesn’t change the answer I provided.
It wasn’t my intention to make you look bad, in case you got that idea. Merely wanted to point out that there is a limit of 5

I have been doing this for several years, I currently have an AW5 and AW7 and alternate between the two, obviously the best to keep the same watch on all day for steps but they will eventually update to the other watch if you switch in the mile of the day. I do this frequently on weekends my older watch is my daily and I use it when I work out and treadmill but often later will switch if we are going out to my stainless steel gold. SOmetimes the switch over is just a few minutes but often it takes 15 to 20 minutes for previous activity to appear on the second watch.

Curious why you did not consider trading in the AW5, right now through Apple the trade-in is giving $90 which I thought was a pretty good deal, Last time a traded I was trading my AW3 for the SS7 and they were only giving me $50 so did not think it was worth the trade at the time.

Having two watch is amazing wish i done this sooner i have SE 2022 GPS and Series 9 sync to my iPhone 15 Pro max every health data sync up also one watch needs charging you can use the other one without missing a beat on your exercise workout before i have to wait 2-3 to fully charge my watch.

if the watches are cellular, do the phone numbers/cell plans on the watch move back and forth to?

Yep. And don't forget you can wear one to track your sleep at night and the other during the day time. This way you don't have be concerned about how you're gonna charge your watch if you want sleep tracking.

Not automatically. I believe you can move them but would need to do so manually each time.

I also don't know how well the carrier would play with frequent switching back and forth. Given the troubles some have each year just doing one move, I'm not sure I'd tempt fate. :D

That's what I intend to do with my S6 now that I have my S9, just haven't done anything about it yet.

As has been mentioned this is not easy and does depend on your carrier but it certainly doesn’t happen when you switch between wearing your paired watches. I now have a S9 and Ultra 2 paired and have them set to automatically switch. As soon as they are switched on your wrist the new one fairly quickly syncs your activity and off you go.

This is the first time I’ve used two watches so I’ve learned a lot in this thread. As for why I didn’t trade the watch in for $90, that wasn’t worth it to me. I know it’s an older watch but i can use it for other things or give it to one of my kids.

I have 2 watches and do this here in Australia on the Telstra network. It is very easy and probably only takes a minute or so. Shame they don't allow more than 1 connection at a time though.

Great thread, thanks guys! :)

Can I revive my old AW2 and use for the same uses above??!

The missus is thinking about a AW now, and I was going to work out how do swap it over to her phone. This may be the most painless way for her to start trying out the AW2 this week, and swap over to her phone over the weekend.

The old AW2 is not listed on my 13Mini, is it a pain to pair an old AW2 to iOS 16.7?

Be good to know AW works for her, before I buy her a new whizz bang one.

Hope you can advise.

Cheers
Martin
