Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this - I couldn't find an "iTunes" forum.

My collection of iPhone apps in iTunes is a bit out of control and hard to scroll/find anything. I'd like to delete a bunch of them, but I'm paranoid enough to think that I'll make a mistake and delete something that I'll end up wanting again. I started to just create a folder on my computer to make a backup of .ipa files for apps I want to delete, but then (again, yes, a little paranoid/anal) I thought that that would likely lose the settings for the apps if I ever decided to restore them.

Is there a way to "archive" apps so that (A) they are gone/invisible from iTunes in the LIBRARY/Apps and DEVICES/MyPhone/Apps views, (B) iTunes and my phone don't ask me to update them, but (C) they can still be restored with their current settings intact?

I don't mind if this can't be done officially within iTunes (ie if I just have to move some files around, remember where they are, and then delete the apps in iTunes).

thanks...
