i got a 17" powerbook with 512 ram.

id like to get some more ram, here in canada the price is.

512mb $169
1gig $369

and as you might know the powerbook only has 2 slots.

does adding another 512 make that big of a difference?
and would there be an even bigger difference with adding 1 gig, or
is that just over kill.

i use lots of apps like logic, dvd sp, flash, games like C&C, RoN..
everything seems to run fine as it is with 512 MB of ram(or i could have just gotten use to only having that much)

anyways whats you thoughts??? :)

There have been about 100000 threads on RAM, and whether 1Gig over .75Gigs over .5Gig makes a huge difference.
The short answer is YES, 1GB will feel a lot quicker than .5GB, and 1.5GB will feel faster than 1GB.
Look for deals on RAM - My advice, get AS MUCH AS YOU CAN legitimately afford.

Hi Thumper
Your 17" Albook is one of the tricky models, I recommend that you stick with a Samsung module for this one (FWIW, the 15" 1.0 and 1.25, and the 17" 1.0 and 1.33 are much fussier about RAM compatibility than the subsequent models.)

This is why the Crucial price on this part is high - they can't use their generic chip, they have to use a special build.

<SELF INTEREST WARNING>
We have the Samsung 1 Gb now for CAN$278. Please don't pay $100 too much... Please visit or PM me
