Can I automatically turn on dock hiding when disconnecting an external monitor?

I've got an MBP and an LED cinema display. When I have the display connect, I want the dock showing because I have the real estate. When I'm on the road though, I don't want the dock to be there so I want to turn on hiding. It's mildly annoying to have to turn it on every time I disconnect it. Is there a way to automatically do this?
