I am thinking of using either superdupper or carbon copy cloner will my external drive be OK to boot up from it is as follows

Freecom 1TB fire wire P/N 31252

Thanks

Shouldn't be a problem using this drive, provided your Mac has Firewire, although you may find performance a little slower depending on your setup. From past experience, SuperDuper is a bit faster than Carbon Copy Cloner and is compatible with Snow Leopard.

Make sure the external drive is set to the right partition map to make it bootable. GUID Partition Table for booting Intel Macs, Apple Partition Map for booting PowerPC Macs. You can do this in Disk Utility, but changing the scheme will erase the drive.
