What I mean is, let's say I have a .dmg file or any file for that matter on my external hard drive / flash drive for storage, and now I want to burn that file onto a CD / DVD for distribution. My logic tells me to copy it to the desktop / computer first, then burn it to the CD from there....but is that additional step necessary? Can I just burn the file onto the CD from the external hard drive / flash drive? When I have my external hard drive mounted, I can choose the option to do it, but just wondering if there would be slowdowns / hiccups, wouldn't burn properly, etc.

Thanks!

You can burn your files fine, even when they are located on an external storage device, as the burning speed will be slower than the read speed of an external HDD or USB flash memory thumb drive (unless you have a very slow one).
