I have an iPod touch but want a smaller shuffle for when I run. I would pay full price for one but I like the older bright blue color, so I figured I could get a refurbished blue one.

Do they only sell them online or can I get one at the Apple Retail store?

I'm very impatient and hate waiting for stuff in the mail.

Don't know is my honest answer BUT for £25 on the UK Apple store online!!!! .. I think its worth the few days wait ;)

1. You can buy refurbished from the online store but not the physical store.

2. If you're so impatient, why are you even asking this question on a message forum instead of just calling your local Apple Store or looking on their website?

I didn't call because I'm also lazy, and the phone is way across the room. :D

lol

So I decided to order it and wait for it. It arrived today and I was impressed. Very fast considering I placed the order Sunday night. 3 days is great.

Anyway I opened it and it looked like new, until I Connected it to my computer and it does not work. It says i need the "iPod Reset Utility" and when i use that it just says "an error occurred during reset". The iPod won't turn on or anything.

I'm on hold now with Apple technical support...

Thats my concern with the apple refurb store. I bought an ipod with them two years ago and it was broken, mailed it in (Apple didn't have my record of purchase, even though I bought it from them), they didn't find a problem with the computer, of course it was still broken and it took a month to get an actual fixed one.

I want to buy a macbook when I'm home in a month, and getting a refurb would be nice, but not if its broken.

I thought Apple was supposed to have great refurbished stuff. I read in many places where people said its more reliable than new stuff because of all the tests. I dunno how I got a lemon. Plugging it into iTunes would have shown them right away that it didn't work. How many tests could they have done if they let it go out broken?

I don't want to wait forever to have it sent back and sent another new one all while wondering if the new one will be broken as-well.

I'm a firm believer in buying refurbished products. Not just from Apple, but from pretty much anyone.

I have a rough idea of how much money it costs to accept a product return and send a new one out. I know that it's a lot more than companies want to spend. So, in general, they do tend to test them a little better, so they lower the odds of it coming back again.

Oddly enough, it seems as though you did just get a lemon. An Apple store can swap it for you.

With that said, if this is just for running, I would seriously consider the Nano and a Nike+ thingy instead. Those things seriously rock.

I have had good and back luck with refurb. Apple products. I got an iMac that was not at all refurbished- it still had broken parts, was dirty and not in the usual refurb. packaging. It was bought straight from apple.com. they did in fact take it back and sent a new one quickly and all, but was a pain.

that being said, my replacement was perfect and is still going strong five+ years later. Saved $500 buying refurb. so I will do it again some day.

I would love to use the Nike+ thing, but I use an elliptical machine when I can't get out to run and from what I hear, they don't work together. You actually have to be running.

Apple support told me to go to the Apple store, make an appointment at the genius bar and they should give me a new one right there. I guess in the end I still won't be getting the blue one I wanted, so red is my next choice.

Will they give me a new one, or a refurbished one? I paid for refurbished, but if they don't sell them in store I guess they wouldn't have them. When my iPod Classic was replaced last year in store they gave me a new one in the box.

Well everything worked out. Took the iPod into my local Apple Store and the guy at the genius bar checked it out told me the flash drive was corrupt. He replaced it with another refurbished one, in the same color I originally ordered (The old brighter blue). I didn't think that the store would have any buy they did, and he told me it was the last one.

Overall I'm satisfied with the situation. Sure they should have checked the iPod before they re-sold it (how do you miss a corrupt flash drive on something thats basically just a flash drive?), but customer service was very friendly and I still got what I wanted in the end.
