I am on a priority list (just got on today). I chatted online with an apple customer service person, and asked about being on the priority list, but then ordering online. That way I know I'll get it from the online store, but in the meantime, I might get lucky and get it earlier from my apple store.

She said that's not a good idea because when I order online, I "use up" my upgrade rate, so when I get it from the store, I'd have to pay full price.

This doesn't sound right. Can't I cancel the online order if my store finds one for me first?

you can cancel it from your apple store account online when you view the order details..

it shouldn't effect your upgrade eligibility until it actually bills you because until then the order technically has yet to go through

Ok thanks. Just ordered online and I'm still "eligible for discounted upgrade" on AT&T. Good news.
