Can I Change My Sim From One iPhone To Another?

I cracked my screen on my iPhone 4, and I want to get a used iPhone 4 to use until the new iPhone comes out. Can I just swap the Sim from my cracked iPhone 4 to a used iPhone 4 I buy on Craigslist so I don't have to deal with changing the contract?

But make sure it's not a Verizon or sprint iPhone if you're in the US.
