Can I connect both an external monitor and an ethernet port to the new 11" Macbook Air? When shopping online I see that Apple offers adapters for both for the Macbook Air (Mini-Display Port to DVI adapter and Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter) but when I look at the pictures of the machine online I don't see any mini-display port, only the thunderbolt port. Does this mean that the MBA could only be connected to one or the other of the ethernet or the external display, one at a time? Or would there be some way to connect both?

My office is about to get me a new computer. I would strongly like the flexibility of the Air, but I'll need an external monitor for day to day use. And wifi in my office is very unreliable so I need the ethernet access.

I realize that the Thunderbolt Display (or an external docking station) would resolve this question, but both are beyond the budget that IT has allocated for my new computer.

Many thanks in advance for any guidance.

If you use an Apple Thunderbolt display you can put the adapter at the end of the chain or just use the built in gigabit ethernet port on the display.

If you don't need gigabit ethernet then you could use the USB to ethernet adaptor.

Thanks - this is just what I needed to know. Perfect solution.

Yes, I'd love to do that but unfortunately the IT dept is not going to buy me a thousand dollar monitor... :-(
