can I connect iMac to tv without AppleTV?

Can anyone tell me what the wired and wireless solutions to link my iMac to my TV are, to stream e.g. bbc iPlayer?? Want to avoid Apple TV if I can.
 
Depends upon how far it is to the TV and what kind of connections are available on said TV.
 
about 5m. TV has 'DVI in' and 'DVI Audio in', as well as 'PC in/Y Pr Pb' and 'PC Audion in'.
